For the first time, the Bears will be the featured team on the 'Hard Knocks' training camp edition.

The Chicago Bears will be featured in HBO’s long-form documentary-style show Hard Knocks, co-produced by NFL Films, during the preseason. The Bears have been one of 10 teams that have never been featured in the series since it premiered in 2001.

The Bears, Broncos and Saints are the three teams that meet the league’s selection criteria to participate in the 2024 edition of the show if no other teams volunteer. Eligible teams include those that do not have a new head coach, have not made the playoffs in the previous two seasons, and have not appeared on Hard Knocks in nearly 10 years.

The five-episode series premieres on Tuesday, August 6 at 9 p.m. on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. New episodes will air every Tuesday until September 3.

“‘Hard Knocks: Chicago Bears Training Camp’ will give our passionate fans around the world the opportunity to experience this unique and pivotal moment in our franchise’s history,” Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren said in a statement Thursday.

Despite starting 0-4 and losing quarterback Justin Fields for five games, the Bears played very well in the second half of the 2023 season and even came close to making the playoffs.

This offseason, the Bears made waves, signing running back D'Andre Swift, trading for wide receiver Keenan Allen, and selecting quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze with the first and ninth picks, respectively, in the 2024 NFL draft. Williams replaced Fields, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the draft.

The talented Williams and his talented group of receivers -- DJ Moore, Allen and Otonze -- will be a big attraction this summer in Lake Forest, Ill. This could be a playoff-caliber Bears roster, but watching Williams grow into a leader in training camp and preseason games will be fascinating drama, with arguably more immediate pressure on him than any No. 1 pick since Andrew Luck in 2012.

The Bears have four preseason games this year, including the Pro Football Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans on Aug. 1 to kick off the preseason. Two days later, three beloved former Bears -- Devin Hurst, Steve McMichael and Julius Peppers -- will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame in Canton during a ceremony. Chicago also faces the Bills in Buffalo, the Bengals in Chicago and the Chiefs in Kansas City to round out their preseason schedule.

The Bears show will follow the five-week run of the New York Giants’ new “Hardball: Preseason” series announced earlier this month.
